Technology Tuesday: Cars that run on water and air

LETS DO DIS!

Cars that run on a synthetic fuel, made from water and air, represent the cutting-edge of innovation now sweeping the auto industry. In a German factory, Audi is making “e-diesel” that uses— rather than emits—carbon dioxide.

Doesn’t that sound amazing? It sure does.

I remember when I was a wee little kid in maybe 8th grade. I was working on a science project trying to “construct” a clean future island. Sure we didn’t think about solutions like this, but this really reminds me of the enthusiasm of trying to come up with new ideas.

Even if this won’t be the next big thing, maybe because of the oil companies lobbying/carteling or maybe because of inefficiencies in the technology, it sure makes me enthusiastic about the future. About us finding good clean energy sources.

Although I don’t really believe that we can keep on using the amount of energy we are in the current rate. At least not until we actually find new planets.

But this new fuel is actually not that wonderful as it sounds from the headline. But it is a step in the right direction! It is better than drilling for more oil or burning more coal.

Audi has been working on cleaner diesels since 2009, and the only raw materials needed for its newest synthetic are water and carbon dioxide. Its pilot plant in Dresden, operated by the German clean technology company sunfire, uses CO2 supplied by a biogas facility.

Biogas in all its glory, but it takes a lot of resources to actually create it. Well. WHATEVER, WE ARE STOKED FOR THE FUTURE. LET’S DO IT!

And we should not forget what Tesla Motors is doing. You go Elon! Maybe I’ll sum up what they have been doing on another Tuesday. In the meantime.

MWM #1: (My “weird” music)

WELCOME TO THE FIRST INSTALLMENT OF MY WEIRD MUSIC. WE ARE WRITING IN CAPS BECAUSE I AM HYPED! ALSO, WE ARE ONLY ME, THERE IS NO WE, THERE IS ONLY ME. AS ALWAYS.

What is this then you ask yourself? Well, it is my attempt of giving you some perspective on music. Kind of.
“But how can he do that, I already listen to everything,”  You tell yourself loudly into your room filled with friends and family. Because you are not alone.

I don’t really think I listen to weird music. When I am faced with the question of what I listen to, I never say “oh, a bit of this and that” or “oh I pretty much listen to everything”, like many people do. Because you know what? That usually means that you listen to one radio station or your never expanding record collection. And for that you are banned on Mars. That is actually true. Because I am the president of Mars. Yes.

So what do I answer? I usually say “I listen to good music”.

Because I do, subjectively of course, but I would argue objectively good as well.

But somehow people like to think I listen to weird music. I’ve heard this time and time again! When someone comes over to my home, when someone watches my stream, when someone overhears what I am playing in my headphones on the bus or when I am faced with the task of playing music at some event. You name it. There are sure to be people commenting on the music and telling me that my taste is weird.

LET ME ENLIGHTEN YOU. I WILL PLAY WEIRD MUSIC FOR YOU. IN THE END YOU WILL COME TO LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DO.

MWM will be dedicated to “weird” music. NOTICE THE QUOTATION MARKS. That means that I actually don’t think it is weird.  But some people might think so and some people might not. So don’t kill me if you actually don’t think it is weird.

This is no attempt to be artsy, so don’t expect shitty objectively bad artsy music.

Ok. TLDR.

Here’s the first one. I kinda posted this on my Facebook earlier, so you will get a bonus one! It is like a Hollywood pilot TV show!

I’ve been listening to this song for a while actually, but I never saw the video until now. It is pretty cool!

This is an even older song in the MWM collection. I love it, but the singing is pretty “weird” to some people. And some can’t even stand it!

So there it is. Your first two MWM songs. Here’s the Spotify playlist for future reference.

IRL Thursday: Internet to the rescue!

It is 4:20 AM. Good morning? I just woke up from a really shitty dream. No one was awake, so, Internet came to the rescue!

What, how is that possible you say?

Well, I happened to surf to a website I do enjoy from time to time. It is called giantbomb.com.

But what did I find there that helped me find my sanity?

Mainly this forum thread. I love me some paint! And I love me some art! I am no good at “arting” myself, but I want to be good, and I really appreciate the chill out manner a thread like this is showing what art can be. It made me chuckle and feel a bit better about myself.

These are just some of the examples. Also the last one was made by this guy who also made a video of it during work. Pretty rad!

And you now what. It is E3 soon! HYPE!

Darkness

Today someone told me that darkness consumes us all, that light is running to fast for us to catch up with it.

Oh yeah, that was me.

Right now someone is lying in a sofa, in a dark room, with loud music on.

Oh yeah that is me.

Sometimes it is ok to be me!

Why do you wear perfume while exercising?

Very often when I am running or exercising, I pass people wearing perfume (or very strong smelling deodorant). Very often they also have fashion-right stylish, trendy clothes. What happened to running in whatever you are comfortable in? Why do you have to look like you are going to a date?

Around ten years ago, you seldom saw people with trendy workout outfits. Sure there has always been workout outfits, but today it is so insanely prominent everywhere. It is actually very sad. People spend so much money for a specific item they use only for one thing. What happened to running in your slacks? And aren’t you supposed to exhaust yourself, sweat, get all red in the face, spit and talk incomprehensibly? Do you think that the perfume will make you smell better after all the sweat has mixed together with the perfume?

I don’t know.

Last time I ran I passed a bunch of these people, they all looked the same. So I had a small rant during my run. More than half of it disappeared of course, But whatever. I did something with it!

This actually makes me think if people actually are embarrassed to “look” exhausted, to look red in the face, to be sweaty, so much that they stop before they meet anyone they pass… or the other way around. Maybe they walk when there is no one there and then they start moving as soon as someone is close.

Please just don’t. If you exercise, you do it for yourself. Don’t care about anyone else.

See you around! ~~

Life tip Monday: Listen to music

I am not talking about everyday radio music. That sucks.
Music can be so much more than that. Of course it can be a legitimate “use” of music, to have it as an everyday escape from all the fuzz and stress and silence. (Silence is for another Monday though).
Music is life. Music moves. Music touches.

Do I need to elaborate more? Maybe I do.

Hmm.

Let me tell you a story then. The beginning of last year was terrible for me. I was stuck with a job I didn’t like and a private life that was really frustrating. I was getting nowhere. I was stressed, I had serious anxiety issues and was on the brink of depression. I even cried at work because I couldn’t stand it and I didn’t know what to do. I had to get some release and to feel safe somewhere. I couldn’t do that at work and I couldn’t do that at home. So during lunch breaks I walked for way longer than I should have, just walking. And when I got back to work I sometimes had to escape to the bathroom. The only place I could be alone. At home I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t rest and had chest pains most of the time. So yeah. It fucking sucked. And that is the short story.

Sure I had support from a few  good friends and my family. But for me, I didn’t really want to be annoying or to demanding of them. I have always been one of those who really try their best to solve all problems alone and try to be self sustaining. I didn’t want help from people (that is a story in it self, I’m not saying it is desirable). But the one thing that I had was music. It was my escape pod on a derelict space ship.

I used that a lot both at work and at home. At home it was mostly on high volume (sorry neighbors) and at work with a pair of serious headphones. It didn’t only help me escape for a moment to let me breathe. It also gave me inspiration at a time when I really needed it. So sure, It wasn’t the only thing that helped me out of my dark derelict space ship. But it sure was a catalyst.

So what did I listen to that helped me? Well. Without any further words I leave you with stuff that was prominent during this time. (I also watched a lot of Cosmos)

Sleepless life

I’ve been sleeping so much the last couple of days. Don’t really know why. I need sun. I need to exercise I guess. Hopefully I can start with stuff like that tomorrow. I will for now focus on getting back on a normal sleeping schedule. Good luck with that…

But I still managed to get out a bit and hang around with friends. It was pretty awesome, chill and invigorating.
We played board games! King of Tokyo at first, which went terribly bad for me. But hey. I took calculated stupid risks and I am happy with that. We followed that up with The Reistance, which I actually wasn’t that stoked to play. I usually end up getting insane headaches from social mind-fuckery games, But it went great. It was also the first time I played as a Spy. That was actually really fun and contrary to my earlier beliefs, it wasn’t easier! I still had to think a lot and we ended up winning. Yay spies!

2015-04-18 01.12.43

Theeen we just talked a lot. As we usually do. It is kinda the best thing hanging around nice people. Just talking about both deep stuff and well, not so deep stuff, like Tinder. How it sucks, and how it is great. I don’t know how the service is for myself becuase, I stay the fuck away from arenas where I need to describe myself. I hate that so much. It feels sooo untrue and shallow. So I just don’t 😉

Peace out!

Technology Tuesday: Old interfaces

So this is going to be a small rant. Maybe  it is because I am old and actually have experienced many of these “bad” interfaces. But that they are bad is not really the point, yeah the point is to show how “far” we have come. Well’ there’s my problem. That statement doesn’t mean anything. How far we have come in 30 years? In interface design? That doesn’t even mean a thing. It is trying to make everything regarding social medias like the all time most important thing in the world. It is not. You should just see these videos as something a bit interesting. And if this really blows your mind, then you need to get out more, or just spend way less time with social media things.

Because you know what? Everything changes, especially in the digital world, nothing is eternal, of course it is going to change and or disappear.

I also would argue that they could have been made much better and with way better accuracy. They are actually not that serious, I guess that is not the point, but for a title suggesting that HUMANITY HAS COME SO FUCKING FAR. Maybe the videos should have been a tad bit more accurate? Oh well.

Here is the original post from io9. *Pausing for readers to vomit a bit in their mouth in response to the ridiculous title of the article* ….

….

Ok, you are back?

Perfect.

I do love me some retro stuff and homages to retro stuff. Maybe my problem here is that they try to make everything really important, and then they joke it away…. where the whole thing wasn’t really that important to begin with.

So here goes:

This is one that is pretty annoying to watch. My problem here is that it just feels like an overly elaborate diss towards Facebook. Where did the “importance” eluded to from the title of the io9 article go? If this would be more of an infomercial done in the old days, sure it would have been cringey, but that would have been more true to the message here.

This one is actually ok, maybe it is because they don’t try to diss the service but actually try to show how it would have been done in DOS, with some added flare of fun stuff.

And we’re back to the annoying stuff. Much because of the bad voice “acting” I guess. The information in it is pretty ok, it would actually be that much of a hassle in the 80’s to get Instagram to work any way near to how it is working today.

Yeah, this one is ok. I guess the DOS ones are harder to fuck up?

Well, this one simply just sucks. The voice is terrible and it would never have been done like that on TV shopping channels. Yeah sure, Pinterest really is worthless, but this video is just bad, not funny and not informative. So nothing gained here.

This one is ok but the problem for me here is that… Skype is a relative new thing that really isn’t the pioneers of this technology. There have been many softwares and clients that did just this before Skype. Skype just happened to do it a bit better (or smarter?) and got bought up by Microsoft. So they make out that Skype is really really important. Don’t get me wrong though, I really like Skype. But I guess some people might see a service as the only one of its kind. But yes, sound couldn’t really be compressed well in the 80’s, it did sound like that, so they got that one right.

This one is actually really good and accurate. This is actually how it would have looked and sounded. And I would have been SO STOKED TO HAVE THIS BACK THEN.

I like this one as well 🙂

I would have loved this as well! I did really like Encarta 95. Encyclopedias was the shit back in the 90’s, they had minigames.

And then we have the last annoying one.

This is just an elaborate belittling or degrading of Youtube. Not even funny.

Ok, so, if you really are interested in old stuff. Maybe something like this, from Engadet is more fulfilling. It is mostly pictures, but there are links to the exhibition and interactive stuff and community stuff.

Or if you just want quality cringey stuff, head over to EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE where everything is really terrible and actually way more accurate of the 90’s! 😀

See you! ~~

Life tip monday: Alcohol

We are just going to state something obvious today.

If you need to be drunk to do something, you should maybe not do that thing

I found this short message pretty fitting for me… not because I am a heavy drinker… but because I am in a time where I really delve into history, and mostly about war. So.. why is drinking a part of this post?

Well, If you watch the episode above you would understand. But in short. Drinking is a part of the horrible aspects of war where you need to drink in order to forget about it and keep on fighting. So war is pretty much not glorious anymore like it has been throughout history, so drinking is like a necessity, or you have to be some kind of a monster deprived of all humanity.

So what mister Logic le Universe tells us is pretty true.

If you need to be drunk to do something, you should maybe not do that thing.

Just apply that to your everyday life and you’ll be a happier healthier human being.

See you another day~~ probably tomorrow
