Medieval weekend market in Stockholm

But i missed it. Fuck.

Well. Here, look at some official pics and wish that you were there.

I have gotten kind of a new found sense of awe for all things from Nordic medieval times. So to miss this was a insane bummer for me. Sure it isn’t the biggest medieval event, but it is still pretty cool, the weather was nice and everything was for free. So I had nothing to lose.  But it is how it is.

And well, I can’t post here without a pic. So lets add some pics from earlier this week where I walked around on Skeppsholmen and found castles and other cool buildings! Adventure in my own town, yeaaah!

Walking around.

Ships like these take you out in the “Skärgård“. Even though I live here, I have been out in the archipelago like.. maybe once. Yes I know. I suck at exploring my own city. I should though. And I will!

Technology Tuesday: Would you get implants?

I’ve been playing System Shock 2 lately.

mall

A game set in a future where man finally takes the step out into the deep space to find new worlds, or whatever the justification for that is in the game. That is of lesser importance to us now, what is important is that it is set in a future where science and technology lets us get implants to enhance some of our abilities. Like speed, strength, cognitive stuff and much more. It is certainly not the only game or sci-fi medium with these kind of enhancements. For instance I remember one fun one in Futurama which enables advertisements to be broadcasted right into your dreams.

Playing System Shock 2 made me really think about if I actually would do it. What would it take for me to get implants. 100% reliability? And what would the cost be? I don’t know. What would I want to enhance? I guess I would like to be stronger, but that would feel like cheating. Or would it? If everyone would be doing it, wouldn’t it just be the norm?

But what would the implications be, I instantly start to think about the negative aspects. What if an implant breaks and leaks weird elements into your brain? What if the company selling these are tracking all your vitals and they are selling that information to a third party? What if the implants have severe side effects? At least in System shock 2 you can only have two implants active at once, and in Bio Shock I think that you can only “splice” up yourself so much before it has any negative effect (or am I thinking about another game?). How far could you go? How far would you go? How far would you be allowed to go, and who would decide? I could go on for ages about this.

But the truth is that it is going to happen. And it is already happening. Take Google’s contact lenses for example. They are supposed to be tracking health status and levels of substances, in this case glucose for diabetes patients. All in the name of better health. You can read about it on Wikipedia (actually didn’t find an official site for it), or an alternative take on it and what it could be used for here.

The lenses are not really implants that are super duper sci-fi like the ones I mentioned earlier in the post. But they are still an indication that we are going there. And it scares me a bit, at the same time it is cool as hell. I love me some science and it is great that companies like Google and their Google [x] division have the resources to do crazy stuff like that. I just hope that it actually is for the greater good.

But…. what if a government would actually allow advertising in dreams? I would certainly protest and move to another one.
Would you “enhance” any of your abilities? And what would that be?
(I am not talking about flying or any superpowers here, and also, leave out plastic surgery for appearances and such)
Or are you just like me, paranoid enough to stay away for as long as possible? 😀

Life Tip Monday: Don’t settle with shit

life tip for you coming up.

People say that friends are really hard to come by. I guess that is true to the extent that really good friends are hard to come by. And those friends you should really treat with the utmost respect you have. But that is not the point we are trying to make today.

People come and go. You need to know that. You need to embrace that. Embrace it so much that you can be the one who leaves. If you are stuck with shitty friends. Leave. It is not simple. But sometimes it is the best thing you can do.

You should not be afraid of swapping out the ones you hang around with. If they suck out more energy then you get back. Then why are you still there? Are you some kind of a noble knight? No. You should first take care of yourself. And I don’t mean in a selfish way. You just need to think about what makes you unhappy, stressed out or miserable. If your daily crowd of people is it. Then change it.

There are so many good and understanding folks out there. You just need to put yourself out there and let them find you. You don’t even have to “look”. Man, this sounds like a thing people say to people really looking for a partner but they don’t succeed. Whatever.

Friends come and go. You should not stick by shit if it is shit. And don’t feel bad for not wanting to hang out with people because they don’t give you anything. It is ok. People move on. You could also move on.

Also, here take this stupid clip of me reading lyrics.

Here’s the original

Happy Monday!

Adventure Friday: Butterflies, mead and the old town, Stockholm

So a mini adventure happened. Evil animals happened. Fika with vacuum cleaners happened. Fake jungle happened and an old town happened.

2015-03-08 16.52.35
Om nom! One of my fav Swedish pastry. a “damsugare” which translates into a “vacuum cleaner”. It tastes better than a real one though. I think. I never tried one.

We went to the”Butterfly House” in Stockholm and found some great stuff in the store there. Because table tennis is what comes to mind thinking about butterflies.

2015-03-08 14.28.14

2015-03-08 14.07.33

So the Butterfly house is a nice relaxed place with way to many kids. They have a bunch of butterflies flying around in a big greenhouse with a warm and humid climate. Pretty sweet just for that I think. But For some reason, they had to evil it up a bit (as if butterflies weren’t evil enough). They were thinking about adding bugs and insects a couple of years ago, they went with sharks instead. Because that attracts evil kids.

20150308_142016

But I don’t go there for the sharks. I actually go there for the butterflies and the warmth.

And because of this fish being our friend, chilling under a tree.

_DSC6726_DSC6727
The environment they created is pretty relaxing, even for butterflies. Looks so chill!

_DSC6723_DSC6725

And they lure the butterflies to sit nicely for all the photographers with pineapple traps.

_DSC6722
They also let this terrifying creature loose.

We continued on to the old town.”Plattan” or Sergels Torg as it is called is on the way there. it is the most known meeting place in central Stockholm. The City Theatre and the Culture House is located in that big building

_DSC6730_DSC6731

Further on our way~~~soon there!

_DSC6737_DSC6734

_DSC6733_2

On our way we saw the well known City Hall, pretty much a staple on post cards.

And finally we were were we wanted to be. At “Sjätte Tunnan”. The name means “Sixth Barrel” and it is a well known medieval themed bar where you drink and eat like a viking. Mead is so good! But they have so much more crazy stuff. You really need to go there if you visit Stockholm. It is a treat and you will surely find cool people or just different people to talk to. What am I saying? To drink with!.

_DSC6745
Can you see my future in this? Because I can! MEAD! Vikings are going to rule soon!

_DSC6744_DSC6743

_DSC6741 _DSC6739

The food is superb and unique, just as the atmosphere. Everyone loves it! (If you don’t then you are not cool). I had Orange flavoured moose and my good friend had.. something else awesome 😀

Also

Moomin is cool. This is a store.
_DSC6738

And here is a bonus for you, because I know it can be hard to know how to use a hand dryer.

20150308_180919
ATTENTION !!! PLACE YOUR HANDS UNDER THE DRYER 3 SECONDS IT BLOWS HANDS DRY

And why not. Here are some more bonuses. Because I couldn’t find another post for them. So this is almost like a mini guide to Stockholm. You are welcome. They are not from the same day.

_DSC6719

This one is from a fancy schmancy place at “Stureplan” a.k.a the most expensive street in Swedish monopoly.

_DSC6720

This is another popular meeting place in Stockholm, it is Hötorget, the blue house is Konserthuset, literally “The Concert House”. During the day it is a small market with fruit and random assortments. The house furthest away is a food court. Behind “me” is another food court and one of the many cinemas Stockholm has. Still not the same day but whatever.

See you~~

IRL Thursday: Sometimes I hang with people

Would you know. Some times I actually go places. Yep, the mere thought of that must boggle your mind.
… it is not? Well, it is boggling my mind. Because the last couple of days have been a black hole for me. I am sorry for my followers both here and on Twitch. Shit has been crazy. It really has been a black dark hole, I have been sleeping during the day and not getting any sunlight. That is some IRL stuff people. So let’s get back on the horse, let us remind ourselves that we sometimes do stuff.

Check this old fab gaming event we had with some friends. I documented it with my old old phone so the videos are real crappy. It was very fun though!

More stuff like this is coming! I just have SO FUCKING MANY PICS AND VIDS THAT IT IS ACTUALLY MIND BOGGLING TO FIND AND  SCURRY THROUGH THEM ALL

EDIT: I added more videos to the playlist from other events. Woop. Also, these videos are the most boring thing ever for anyone who wasn’t there. And even then it is pretty boring. But hey. I am working thorugh my “to-do list”

IRL Thursday: Artistic soul

I try. I want to. I do it way to seldom. But I really have an artistic soul. I love to create, I love to improvise and I love to see something that I’ve done being a complete work. It makes me feel proud of myself.

I have many plans regarding my artistic ongoings. None of them are that big, and many of them are started projects I kinda never finished. It is mostly because I am not that good in that area. I can’t sing. I can’t draw. I can’t animate. I can’t design. But all of these things I wanna do. So I do just little here and there.

I don’t wanna go into a lot of the specifics because then I might never finish them (check this post on why).

But I did start to paint my wall many years ago. It was supposed to be a big red tree. I never finished that.

I started with a sound project called “Sounds you can make”, it is actually here on the blog in a tab on top… I think. It was a fun idea where I just wanted to record spontaneous sounds and make a collection of it. I never finished that.

I’ve been drawing stuff, like self portraits. this is one of them:
glasögon, porträtt

I never really continued on that part either.

And now I want to make a collage of every brochure I collected on my travels and I also want to model stuff in Unreal Engine. We will see how that goes!

This is actually a big problem I have in life. I am so interested in EVERYTHING that I don’t really end up doing a lot. Because it is so hard to focus on one thing. It is like being the opposite of being one of those who really have a clear goal in mind. A dream that they strive for. Well. I kinda do now. I want to finish my master studies in Geography really badly. But I still want to do all this other stuff.

I dunno. Are you the same?

See you around~~

World Wednesday: Illuminati confirmed! (Volcanoes)

So volcanoes, right?

Yeah, they are scary and cool as shit.

One stopps and then the other starts. Can we see the pattern here? #Illuminati

The one in Iceland, Holuhraun stopped just recently, it started 21 of august last year and has been doing its business until now. That is pretty fucked up.
Although it wasn’t an explosive one, it still is pretty crazy that mother earth is spewing out its intestines for so long. It makes me feel tiny and puny.

The one that just started is Villarrica, an explosive one in Chile. This confirms all conspiracy theories ever and it confirms my theories on life, being. … Life. No. That didn’t work out. Scratch that. But we’re keeping the conspiracy legitimization aspect. This means that the Illuminati are in fact a ground dwelling people/aliens taking residence somewhere beneath our earths crust. It seems that they are fucking shit up for us, but in fact they are just keeping us at bay and giving us a wake up call every now and then. They are actually kind of good minded, they want us to realize that we need to go further out in space. That is good for us as a species. We need to leave this destroyed planet of ours. But the reasons might be a bit egoistic. They want us to leave so that they can repair it and enjoy it for themselves. But their way of repairing it is to make it a big ball of lava. Because that is cool. And they don’t like winter. Yes. I’m going with that. Cue judge hammer. …

If you want a more “real” coverage of the Villarrica volcano, maybe go to BBC.

Also, sorry for missing out on tech Tuesday and life tip Monday. In short:
My Monday sucked big time. I actually woke up and thought it was Sunday and missed an appointment due to that. So the life tip for you is .. don’t think that Monday is Sunday.
Tech Tuesday then, what happened? I actually don’t remember. Maybe I was intoxicated by playing the new alpha of Unreal Tournament. Check it out on my twitch some time! But for a real mind blowing story, check this out.

It is about how dry ice could power a colony on mars! Maybe this also is the work of Illuminati to speed up our escape.

See you around! ~~

IRL Thursday: Pangur Ban

This is the first IRL Thursday and you are asking yourself, what is this all about?
Well, it is about me. MY life. My stuff.

It can incorporate a lot, but I like that. Because then I don’t have to narrow it down insanely much. I can tangentially touch upon many subjects in and around a genre.

So what do I want to tell you about myself today?

Yeah well. That I get sad by listening to this:

The movie itself, The Secret Of Kells is really good. I can not recommend it enough. The music, the setting and the atmosphere is crazily cozy but still a bit haunting. It is a cool movie for sure. But the problem is. I saw this movie during a period in my life when everything really was shit, or it was turning to shit and got worse as time went. The person who introduced me to the movie was at that time no problem, but became one. A real big one. And that is the reason why I feel sad listening to this soundtrack, I remember to much. Memories work in strange ways. They can ruin music and movies (and other things of course) for you.

It is not the first time that this has happened to me and I have never really concurred the ruination (lack of better words) of music or other media by bad experiences and haunting memories. But I am working on it.

In this instance, I am trying to listen to this album objectively. I do other stuff at the same time, I play games and I talk to friends. That way I get used to the music without only thinking about the past. That also creates new emotions and situations coupled together with the music. It displaces my feelings, maybe very little but it is still enough for me to be able to listen to it! In the end I hope to be able to watch the movie again and create new memories, positive ones.

The moral of the story is, don’t let bad experiences ruin good music or movies for you!

Peace out!

Life tip monday: Shut the fuck up

Yes.

That is the life tip of today.

It is actually very scientific. It has to do with you and your life changing plans. If you tell everyone around you that you are going to quit smoking or start exercising the chances are very high that they will answer in the common social way of giving you praise. That in turn will be interpreted in your body as success and you will feel good, hormones will be released making you feel happy. The effect is that you kind of got what you wanted, or what the body wanted, a reward and feeling good. Thus making it less likely for you to actually successfully go through with your plans.

That is why it is so common for people to only do their life changing business for a week or two.

The thing is, you can tell people, but tell people in a very cautious manner and with telling them not to give you praise. That IF you really want to tell them of your plans. I mean life changing stuff can be important for close friends or family to know about. This goes both ways though, if a friend tells you that he is going to quit drinking, well, don’t tell him that he is so cool for doing that. Tell him that he should be careful and give him your best wishes.

I actually found a cool TED talk about this. Check it out!
