Sleepless life

I’ve been sleeping so much the last couple of days. Don’t really know why. I need sun. I need to exercise I guess. Hopefully I can start with stuff like that tomorrow. I will for now focus on getting back on a normal sleeping schedule. Good luck with that…

But I still managed to get out a bit and hang around with friends. It was pretty awesome, chill and invigorating.
We played board games! King of Tokyo at first, which went terribly bad for me. But hey. I took calculated stupid risks and I am happy with that. We followed that up with The Reistance, which I actually wasn’t that stoked to play. I usually end up getting insane headaches from social mind-fuckery games, But it went great. It was also the first time I played as a Spy. That was actually really fun and contrary to my earlier beliefs, it wasn’t easier! I still had to think a lot and we ended up winning. Yay spies!

2015-04-18 01.12.43

Theeen we just talked a lot. As we usually do. It is kinda the best thing hanging around nice people. Just talking about both deep stuff and well, not so deep stuff, like Tinder. How it sucks, and how it is great. I don’t know how the service is for myself becuase, I stay the fuck away from arenas where I need to describe myself. I hate that so much. It feels sooo untrue and shallow. So I just don’t 😉

Peace out!

Technology Tuesday: Old interfaces

So this is going to be a small rant. Maybe  it is because I am old and actually have experienced many of these “bad” interfaces. But that they are bad is not really the point, yeah the point is to show how “far” we have come. Well’ there’s my problem. That statement doesn’t mean anything. How far we have come in 30 years? In interface design? That doesn’t even mean a thing. It is trying to make everything regarding social medias like the all time most important thing in the world. It is not. You should just see these videos as something a bit interesting. And if this really blows your mind, then you need to get out more, or just spend way less time with social media things.

Because you know what? Everything changes, especially in the digital world, nothing is eternal, of course it is going to change and or disappear.

I also would argue that they could have been made much better and with way better accuracy. They are actually not that serious, I guess that is not the point, but for a title suggesting that HUMANITY HAS COME SO FUCKING FAR. Maybe the videos should have been a tad bit more accurate? Oh well.

Here is the original post from io9. *Pausing for readers to vomit a bit in their mouth in response to the ridiculous title of the article* ….

….

Ok, you are back?

Perfect.

I do love me some retro stuff and homages to retro stuff. Maybe my problem here is that they try to make everything really important, and then they joke it away…. where the whole thing wasn’t really that important to begin with.

So here goes:

This is one that is pretty annoying to watch. My problem here is that it just feels like an overly elaborate diss towards Facebook. Where did the “importance” eluded to from the title of the io9 article go? If this would be more of an infomercial done in the old days, sure it would have been cringey, but that would have been more true to the message here.

This one is actually ok, maybe it is because they don’t try to diss the service but actually try to show how it would have been done in DOS, with some added flare of fun stuff.

And we’re back to the annoying stuff. Much because of the bad voice “acting” I guess. The information in it is pretty ok, it would actually be that much of a hassle in the 80’s to get Instagram to work any way near to how it is working today.

Yeah, this one is ok. I guess the DOS ones are harder to fuck up?

Well, this one simply just sucks. The voice is terrible and it would never have been done like that on TV shopping channels. Yeah sure, Pinterest really is worthless, but this video is just bad, not funny and not informative. So nothing gained here.

This one is ok but the problem for me here is that… Skype is a relative new thing that really isn’t the pioneers of this technology. There have been many softwares and clients that did just this before Skype. Skype just happened to do it a bit better (or smarter?) and got bought up by Microsoft. So they make out that Skype is really really important. Don’t get me wrong though, I really like Skype. But I guess some people might see a service as the only one of its kind. But yes, sound couldn’t really be compressed well in the 80’s, it did sound like that, so they got that one right.

This one is actually really good and accurate. This is actually how it would have looked and sounded. And I would have been SO STOKED TO HAVE THIS BACK THEN.

I like this one as well 🙂

I would have loved this as well! I did really like Encarta 95. Encyclopedias was the shit back in the 90’s, they had minigames.

And then we have the last annoying one.

This is just an elaborate belittling or degrading of Youtube. Not even funny.

Ok, so, if you really are interested in old stuff. Maybe something like this, from Engadet is more fulfilling. It is mostly pictures, but there are links to the exhibition and interactive stuff and community stuff.

Or if you just want quality cringey stuff, head over to EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE where everything is really terrible and actually way more accurate of the 90’s! 😀

See you! ~~

Medieval weekend market in Stockholm

But i missed it. Fuck.

Well. Here, look at some official pics and wish that you were there.

I have gotten kind of a new found sense of awe for all things from Nordic medieval times. So to miss this was a insane bummer for me. Sure it isn’t the biggest medieval event, but it is still pretty cool, the weather was nice and everything was for free. So I had nothing to lose.  But it is how it is.

And well, I can’t post here without a pic. So lets add some pics from earlier this week where I walked around on Skeppsholmen and found castles and other cool buildings! Adventure in my own town, yeaaah!

Walking around.

2015-04-10 16.25.38
Ships like these take you out in the “Skärgård“. Even though I live here, I have been out in the archipelago like.. maybe once. Yes I know. I suck at exploring my own city. I should though. And I will!

And finally the real castle. Doesn’t really look that “castelly”, But it is our official house for our king. It is pretty big though.
See you around!~~

Technology Tuesday: Would you get implants?

I’ve been playing System Shock 2 lately.

mall

A game set in a future where man finally takes the step out into the deep space to find new worlds, or whatever the justification for that is in the game. That is of lesser importance to us now, what is important is that it is set in a future where science and technology lets us get implants to enhance some of our abilities. Like speed, strength, cognitive stuff and much more. It is certainly not the only game or sci-fi medium with these kind of enhancements. For instance I remember one fun one in Futurama which enables advertisements to be broadcasted right into your dreams.

Playing System Shock 2 made me really think about if I actually would do it. What would it take for me to get implants. 100% reliability? And what would the cost be? I don’t know. What would I want to enhance? I guess I would like to be stronger, but that would feel like cheating. Or would it? If everyone would be doing it, wouldn’t it just be the norm?

But what would the implications be, I instantly start to think about the negative aspects. What if an implant breaks and leaks weird elements into your brain? What if the company selling these are tracking all your vitals and they are selling that information to a third party? What if the implants have severe side effects? At least in System shock 2 you can only have two implants active at once, and in Bio Shock I think that you can only “splice” up yourself so much before it has any negative effect (or am I thinking about another game?). How far could you go? How far would you go? How far would you be allowed to go, and who would decide? I could go on for ages about this.

But the truth is that it is going to happen. And it is already happening. Take Google’s contact lenses for example. They are supposed to be tracking health status and levels of substances, in this case glucose for diabetes patients. All in the name of better health. You can read about it on Wikipedia (actually didn’t find an official site for it), or an alternative take on it and what it could be used for here.

The lenses are not really implants that are super duper sci-fi like the ones I mentioned earlier in the post. But they are still an indication that we are going there. And it scares me a bit, at the same time it is cool as hell. I love me some science and it is great that companies like Google and their Google [x] division have the resources to do crazy stuff like that. I just hope that it actually is for the greater good.

But…. what if a government would actually allow advertising in dreams? I would certainly protest and move to another one.
Would you “enhance” any of your abilities? And what would that be?
(I am not talking about flying or any superpowers here, and also, leave out plastic surgery for appearances and such)
Or are you just like me, paranoid enough to stay away for as long as possible? 😀

Life Tip Monday: Don’t settle with shit

life tip for you coming up.

People say that friends are really hard to come by. I guess that is true to the extent that really good friends are hard to come by. And those friends you should really treat with the utmost respect you have. But that is not the point we are trying to make today.

People come and go. You need to know that. You need to embrace that. Embrace it so much that you can be the one who leaves. If you are stuck with shitty friends. Leave. It is not simple. But sometimes it is the best thing you can do.

You should not be afraid of swapping out the ones you hang around with. If they suck out more energy then you get back. Then why are you still there? Are you some kind of a noble knight? No. You should first take care of yourself. And I don’t mean in a selfish way. You just need to think about what makes you unhappy, stressed out or miserable. If your daily crowd of people is it. Then change it.

There are so many good and understanding folks out there. You just need to put yourself out there and let them find you. You don’t even have to “look”. Man, this sounds like a thing people say to people really looking for a partner but they don’t succeed. Whatever.

Friends come and go. You should not stick by shit if it is shit. And don’t feel bad for not wanting to hang out with people because they don’t give you anything. It is ok. People move on. You could also move on.

Also, here take this stupid clip of me reading lyrics.

Here’s the original

Happy Monday!

Adventure Friday: Butterflies, mead and the old town, Stockholm

So a mini adventure happened. Evil animals happened. Fika with vacuum cleaners happened. Fake jungle happened and an old town happened.

2015-03-08 16.52.35
Om nom! One of my fav Swedish pastry. a “damsugare” which translates into a “vacuum cleaner”. It tastes better than a real one though. I think. I never tried one.

We went to the”Butterfly House” in Stockholm and found some great stuff in the store there. Because table tennis is what comes to mind thinking about butterflies.

So the Butterfly house is a nice relaxed place with way to many kids. They have a bunch of butterflies flying around in a big greenhouse with a warm and humid climate. Pretty sweet just for that I think. But For some reason, they had to evil it up a bit (as if butterflies weren’t evil enough). They were thinking about adding bugs and insects a couple of years ago, they went with sharks instead. Because that attracts evil kids.

20150308_142016

But I don’t go there for the sharks. I actually go there for the butterflies and the warmth.

And because of this fish being our friend, chilling under a tree.

_DSC6726_DSC6727
The environment they created is pretty relaxing, even for butterflies. Looks so chill!

_DSC6723_DSC6725

And they lure the butterflies to sit nicely for all the photographers with pineapple traps.

_DSC6722
They also let this terrifying creature loose.

We continued on to the old town.”Plattan” or Sergels Torg as it is called is on the way there. it is the most known meeting place in central Stockholm. The City Theatre and the Culture House is located in that big building

_DSC6730_DSC6731

Further on our way~~~soon there!

_DSC6737_DSC6734

_DSC6733_2

On our way we saw the well known City Hall, pretty much a staple on post cards.

And finally we were were we wanted to be. At “Sjätte Tunnan”. The name means “Sixth Barrel” and it is a well known medieval themed bar where you drink and eat like a viking. Mead is so good! But they have so much more crazy stuff. You really need to go there if you visit Stockholm. It is a treat and you will surely find cool people or just different people to talk to. What am I saying? To drink with!.

_DSC6745
Can you see my future in this? Because I can! MEAD! Vikings are going to rule soon!

_DSC6744_DSC6743

_DSC6741 _DSC6739

The food is superb and unique, just as the atmosphere. Everyone loves it! (If you don’t then you are not cool). I had Orange flavoured moose and my good friend had.. something else awesome 😀

Also

Moomin is cool. This is a store.
_DSC6738

And here is a bonus for you, because I know it can be hard to know how to use a hand dryer.

20150308_180919
ATTENTION !!! PLACE YOUR HANDS UNDER THE DRYER 3 SECONDS IT BLOWS HANDS DRY

And why not. Here are some more bonuses. Because I couldn’t find another post for them. So this is almost like a mini guide to Stockholm. You are welcome. They are not from the same day.

_DSC6719

This one is from a fancy schmancy place at “Stureplan” a.k.a the most expensive street in Swedish monopoly.

_DSC6720

This is another popular meeting place in Stockholm, it is Hötorget, the blue house is Konserthuset, literally “The Concert House”. During the day it is a small market with fruit and random assortments. The house furthest away is a food court. Behind “me” is another food court and one of the many cinemas Stockholm has. Still not the same day but whatever.

Playing games with mah freinds

_DSC6710 _DSC6711 2015-01-24 22.12.46

Both video games and card games were the focus of this small cozy event. Hmm, I’m lying, it was actually just to hang around nice friends. What we did was just an effect of all the niceness.
We streamed everything we played on twitch. We played The Resistance, Coup, The Yawhg and Amnesia. It was a great day!

The Resistance went great actually, it is about trying to find out who the spies are, but only the spies know who the other spies are. There are three in total and you have 5 rounds to try and figure that out by talking to each other, sending people on quests and seeing the outcome of said quests. The quests have no story relevance, because there is no story. You just talk and try to figure out who is which role and vote accordingly. We had great talks and we actually managed to hone down the spies through our fantastic abilities to spot lies! Dirty lies!

Then we played some Coup. Well. I didn’t. I managed the stream and chilled out. I kinda don’t remember the rules. So whatever. But it looked fun 😀

Aaand then the super duper atmospheric The Yawhg. It is a short, kinda role playing game about saving a town from a great storm like thing called the Yawhg. I won’t tell you much about it. You just have to play it, but not by yourself, play it with someone at least! You will have a great time trying to save the town or save yourself or… role play like you want. In the end you have created a story! A damn good one,  it could be happy and dark at the same time. And the music is great!

Finally, Amnesia. Scary game! Play! Do it! 😀

I slept for 15 hours after all of this. My body is crazy. Now I have to clean the place up and I’ll try to fix my headphones as well. I mean. it IS Monday, I guess I have to do, a thing at least.

Sick days

I’ve been looking for jobs, looking for stuff to do but also being really terribly sick the last couple of days. I’ve gotten some kind of flu where nothing wants to stay in my body. So I haven’t really gotten any sleep and not really any food to talk about. So, the blog has also fallen behind. But well, now I am up and running, I am really hungry and I am in a hurry to get to the store, they close in about 30 minutes and I have absolutely nothing to eat at home 😀

Here you go in the meantime, news about Sweden in English, it is a pretty nice site actually. You should check out this little article from a former staff member living in Sweden for four years, he learned some things about us Swedes ;D

See you!

Hugs ❤ !
